What’s Next for OBDAI
Dear OBDAI Community,
Thank you. Your emails, reviews, and messages don’t just get read, they shape what OBDAI becomes. The features coming next exist because you asked for them. We may not respond instantly, but we hear you and do our best to address every concern.
Version 2.0.1 is in testing now, and I’m excited to share what’s coming after that. We’ll be rolling out Cross-Platform Premium Access, a subscription that works seamlessly across Windows, Android, and iOS.
This has been one of our most requested features and one of the most complex to deliver. Here’s why:
First, our privacy-first approach meant users were completely anonymous. We intentionally didn’t link user identities to license records. That design made it impossible to synchronize entitlements across platforms without rebuilding how we issue and validate licenses.
Second, each app store (Apple, Google, and Microsoft) enforces its own rules around in-app purchases, pricing parity, and cross-store linking. Historically, developers couldn’t vary pricing, run store-specific sales, or reference another platform. Those policies were meant to prevent “price arbitrage.”
But recent rulings, including the Epic Games v. Apple decision, have relaxed those restrictions. That legal shift finally lets us build the cross-platform experience we always wanted while still respecting user privacy and store guidelines.
Our Mission Stays the Same
We want to democratize automotive diagnostics by putting professional-grade tools into the hands of anyone who owns a vehicle, whether you’re a shop owner, enthusiast, or weekend DIYer.
When we started OBDAI, the idea was simple: let people use the affordable OBD hardware they already own. But in practice, that openness came with a cost. There are hundreds of low-cost adapters on the market, all with different chipsets, firmware quirks, and connection behaviors, especially among Bluetooth LE devices. Nearly every negative review we’ve received came from someone whose adapter didn’t work.
So we fixed that. We sourced reliable, tested adapters we can support directly, and starting this November, we’ll offer two OBDAI-certified dongles bundled with Premium access:
- GEN 1 (ISO) – A dependable, affordable dongle compatible with most vehicles
- GEN 2 (Premium) – Higher-spec hardware with full SAE protocol coverage, faster connection times, and broader compatibility
Both will be available through our web store and Amazon with annual Premium subscriptions.
What’s Coming: Q4 2025 – Q1 2026
- Cross-Platform Premium Access – Use OBDAI on any device you own with one license
- Cloud Sync & Continuity – Start a test on one device, finish it on another
- HTML & PDF Export – Generate professional diagnostic reports you can print or share with customers
- Enhanced Graphing & Data Visualization – Multi-PID overlays, historical comparisons, and trend analysis
- Vehicle Profiles – Save vehicles, notes, and repair data for faster repeat testing
- Mode 2 Freeze Frame & Mode 6 Monitor Analysis – Analyze stored fault conditions and monitor advanced sensor data for deeper diagnostic accuracy
- European VIN Decoding & Vehicle History – Decode EU VIN formats, access auction history, and integrate local parts pricing for better repair insights
- Bring Your Own Model (BYOM) – Integrate your preferred AI engine (Claude, Grok, etc.) for personalized insights and experimentation with alternate LLMs
We’re still a small, independent team, but we move fast, we listen closely, and we’re obsessed with building tools that empower people instead of locking them out.
Thank you for being part of this journey, for your trust, your patience, and your passion. Innovative diagnostics shouldn’t cost a fortune, and with your help, they won’t.
Sincerely,
Daniel Blackmon
