Short answer: If you can’t upgrade to Premium, the issue is usually related to app store account problems, payment method issues, or regional restrictions. This guide walks through each scenario.
Common Upgrade Problems
“Purchase could not be completed” or “Transaction failed”
Check your payment method:
- Open your device’s app store settings
- Verify your payment card is valid and not expired
- Make sure billing address matches your card
- Try a different payment method if available
Check for holds or restrictions:
- Some banks block recurring subscription charges — call your bank
- Prepaid cards often don’t work for subscriptions
- PayPal linked accounts sometimes have authorization issues
Try these steps:
- Close OBDAI completely
- Open the App Store / Play Store / Microsoft Store
- Try to purchase any free app (confirms your account works)
- Reopen OBDAI and try the upgrade again
“You already own this item” (but Premium isn’t active)
This means you have a previous subscription that wasn’t properly canceled or expired.
On Android (Google Play):
- Go to Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions
- Look for OBDAI — check if it shows “Canceled” or “Expired”
- If it says “Active” but you don’t have Premium, sign out of OBDAI and sign back in
- If it says “Canceled” or nothing appears, contact support@obdai.app
On iOS (Apple):
- Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions
- Find OBDAI and check its status
- If active but not working, restore purchases (see below)
On Windows:
- Go to account.microsoft.com/services
- Check your OBDAI subscription status
- If active but not showing in app, sign out and sign back in
“Restore Purchases” doesn’t work
What Restore Purchases does: It checks the app store for any active subscriptions linked to your account and activates them in the app.
If restore fails:
- Make sure you’re signed into the app store with the same account you used to purchase
- Check that your subscription is actually active (see steps above)
- Try signing out of OBDAI, then signing back in, then restoring
Cross-platform issue: If you subscribed on one platform (e.g., Android) and want Premium on another (e.g., iOS), restore won’t work across platforms. Your subscription only works in the store where you purchased. However, if you sign into OBDAI with the same account, Premium should sync automatically through our entitlement system.
Upgrade button does nothing / app freezes
Update the app:
- Go to your app store
- Check for OBDAI updates
- Install any available updates
- Try again
Clear cache (Android only):
- Settings → Apps → OBDAI → Storage → Clear Cache
- Reopen OBDAI and try again
Restart your device:
- Sometimes app store services get stuck
- A full restart clears temporary issues
“This item is not available in your country”
Some app store features are region-restricted.
Check your app store region:
- If you recently moved or are traveling, your app store account region may not match your current location
- VPNs can sometimes trigger regional blocks
Solutions:
- Disable VPN if you’re using one
- Make sure your app store account region matches your actual location
- If you’re in a region where OBDAI isn’t available through stores, consider purchasing a license directly from obdai.app/shop — these work worldwide
“I purchased but Premium isn’t showing”
Just purchased — give it a minute
App store purchases sometimes take 30-60 seconds to process. If Premium doesn’t appear immediately:
- Wait 1-2 minutes
- Pull down to refresh (if the app supports it)
- Close and reopen the app
- Sign out and sign back in
Purchased on a different device
If you bought Premium on your phone but it’s not showing on your tablet:
- Make sure you’re signed into OBDAI with the same account on both devices
- On the second device, go to Settings → Restore Purchases
- If using different sign-in methods (e.g., Google on phone, email on tablet), that’s the problem — use the same sign-in everywhere
Purchased through a different app store account
If you have multiple Google/Apple/Microsoft accounts:
- Verify which account has the active subscription
- Sign into that store account on your device
- Sign into OBDAI with an account that matches (or any account if you’ve synced before)
- Restore purchases
I have a license code (not an app store subscription)
If you purchased a bundle from obdai.app/shop or Amazon, you have a license code — not an app store subscription.
Don’t try to subscribe through the app store. You’ll end up paying twice.
To activate your license:
- Open OBDAI
- Go to Settings → Redeem Code (or “Activate License”)
- Enter your license code:
OBDAI-XX-XXXX-XXXX - For Amazon purchases, also enter your Amazon Order ID
